Ella Calas is a jewelry artist from metro Detroit. Her work is inspired by a combination of architectural and organic form. She currently fabricates her work from recycled sterling silver and focuses on minimal and wearable pieces. In May of 2016 she received her BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from the College for Creative Studies.
"I enjoy working with minimal geometric forms; recently I have been adding texture to my pieces using a technique known as granulation. Each small silver dot is individually placed onto the surface of the piece. The surface is then heated up to a high temperature until the dots are fused, leaving a texture. This gives the pieces in this collection an organic quality and makes each piece its own."
